Pissenlit

Now that I am a mother, I see things differently. And I enjoy much more the little things, trying to look through the eyes of a child. The dandelions, for example, that we look for in each walk, give us so much joy. I had forgotten how they evolve, from the yellow flower to the silky round capsule. We usually talk about the Phoenix or even the butterflies, but I don’t usually hear the virtues of the dandelion. Now motherhood reminds me of them. They make us believe that beauty is in that immature phase of our life, like a fresh yellow flower. But if it is chosen, then comes motherhood with that soft white cocoon that makes any child dream. Mysterious and even prettier than the first yellow flower.

DIY laundry detergent

DIY laundry detergent: the recipe! My last post was about fashion, let’s talk about household products now.

It’s been a while since I started to use my own homemade laundry detergent and I’ve just realized that I never shared the recipe here in my “journal”.

At first I started to make my own detergent in order to protect the environment, trying to be more respectful, eco-friendly, avoiding phosphates and using less plastic ( if you make your own home products you’re going to consume less plastic)

Then I looked at the long ingredient list and slowly learn that not only you won’t need all those ingredients but also that they are toxic chemicals really harmful for health.

I am not going to list all of them, they are a lot!

(Sodium Lauryl Sulfate & Sodium Laureth Sulfate/ Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate (SLS/ SLES) : surfactants intended to remove soil and as a foaming agent,Phosphates: causes high die-off of native marine animal species, Formaldehyde, Chlorine Bleach, Ammonium Sulfate, Dioxane (1,4 Dioxane/ Diethylene Dioxide/ Diethylene Ether/ Dioxan), Optical Brighteners/ UV Brighteners,Fragrance (Unspecified/ Parfum)…..

And the list continues…

This picture helps a lot to understand those ingredients (I’ve found it on Instagram via @loveandlarockessentials talking about fabric softeners and dryer sheets)

So that’s why I love my eco-friendly, harmless (and also inexpensive homemade laundry detergent) because I only need five ingredients:

Soap,Baking soda, white vinegar (softener),salt and Lavender essential oil (not only for a heavenly smell but also because all the proprieties of lavender, antiseptic most of all)

*Ingredients:

-2l water

-90 gr Marseille soap ( a cube that you can grate or you can also buy soap flakes)

Homemade laundry detergent

Diy laundry detergent

-2 tbsp baking soda

Diy laundry detergent

-1 tsp salt

-2 tsp white vinegar

-30 drops lavender essential oil

I just need to boil the water, remove from heat and add the soap. Wait for an homogenous mixture and then add the salt and the baking soda. Let rest for the night and then add the white vinegar and the essential oil of your choice.

That’s all, you can use now your homemade laundry detergent. People use to think that making your own laundry detergent will be long and hard but not at all, just boil the water and mow the ingredients! The essential oil won’t add fragrance to the clothes, as I said I use it for its properties: but if you want to add the smell too you can spray your clothes with 100ml of alcohol 70° and 3 drops of essential oil,it will smell amazing!

Suffering of migraines I can’t use a regular detergent, I really need to use a natural one and I am happy that I am using eco-friendly ingredients.

Hope you like it and maybe that you’ll consider to change your detergent to a greener one?

Enjoy it!

Placemats to purses

Placemats into purses

From placemats to purses! Remember the raffia round hand bag ? ( You can find the post here )

I made it last year from scratch with recycled items and I love it, I can’t wait for warmer days to use it but sadly it’s still raining here!

You maybe have noticed that it’s the main protagonist of all the outfits this season. Every brand have now a especial raffia collection. And new items are popping up,and as a raffia lover I am obsessed with all of them.

I must say that I usually buy raffia items in local markets, when we travel for example, trying to avoid the fast fashion industry.

And sometimes I rather made them myself because I enjoy handmade and that’s the best way to have an unique item.

Long story short: I want to introduce you the new hand bag of my wardrobe.

Raffia halfmoon purse

The “raffia halfmoon purse”, made with one place mat: the easiest #diy you could imagine.

Placemats into purses

I only needed one place mat, a zipper and a chain. And you can obviously add some decorations. I always try to use things that I already have at home in a “zerowaste” philosophy.

The chain is from an old handbag that I don’t use anymore for example.

You just need to fold the place mat and sew the zipper if you want to wear it as a clutch. If you want a shoulder handbag add two handles on opposite sides of the zipper and use the chain of your choice.

Upcycled purse

That’s all! You are ready for a sustainable trendy outfit!

Hope you liked it?

I looked for tutorials and it’s a quite easy one,you just need 2 squares of fabric.

DIY Handbags

DIY Handbags: One year ago I shared a post of my favorite #diy, the round handbag.

I am really proud about this bag, with recycled items ( place mats from dried water hyacinth, thrifted crochet napkins… )

I had the idea of customize the bag with those napkins and I am obsessed! (If you follow my posts you already know that, I use them too to create dreamcatchers)

So I couldn’t help it and made another round bag, smaller, this time with fabric instead of placemats.

Maybe you have seen it on my post assortment of bags when I shared the bags made with rustic fabric and a pair of old jeans.

That’s what I love about these bags, I can switch when I want with only one handle, that’s has been very handy on ur lasts trips whatever road-trip or flights.

I just wanted to share some more pictures of them today:

I am also wearing a lot the funny bag, especially when I carry my newborn, or wearing dresses without pockets ?.

I am working on some similar projects and I am really excited, can’t wait to share here!

Do you like these DIY Handbags? They are almost 100%ade from scraps or recycled items.

Handmade Facial tea tree and calendula soap

Today was one of those days…you run all day, you get frustrated because you think that you had nothing done, everything is “half-finisfhed” and at the end of the day you are tired, frustrated and you feel guilty because you think that nothing was achieved.

When I feel like that I try to make a list with all the chores/things that I actually done.

Usually I only think about it, but today I am going to write it here:

?I did my homemade laundry detergent

?I cooked two recipes, one of them with my daughter (no nap for her today, it took us almost two hours, but it was fun)

?I cleaned the mess after cooking (#cookwithtoddlers)

?I breastfeeded and had quality time with my newborn all the time that she was awake

?I tidied the house

?I made my henna hair

?I finished a collage picture frame

?Edited some pictures on my phone

?I am writing now on my stationary bike (at least 20 minutes of exercising/day)

?And I also made homemade soap bars. And that’s why I am writing now, to note the recipe here.

I found a new way to made these soap bars, a very easy recipe with only three ingredients.

Ingredients (all from Aroma-Zone.fr)

-100 gr of meltandpour,

-5ml of calendula

-and 42 drops of tea tree.

This time I want to try mini bars, in order to have more of them and collect them all in a glass container.

I want to use them as a facial soap so it’s going to be better to have more smaller bars than just a big one.

That’s it, I hope you’ve enjoyed and when you feel frustrated about your day always remember that you certainly did great things (and small things also count, sometimes more than those you think that are bigger).
