Handmade egg holder

Handmade egg holder with air dry clay: a new Easter craft is ready! An easy bunny egg holder that your kids will love to do (and it’s actually cute).

If you like to craft with air dry clay you definitely need to try this idea: it will serve as an egg holder whether you want to eat a poched egg or to paint eggs for Easter crafts!

Every year we like to craft something special for Easter, usually it’s something “egg” related ( recipe, egg boxes, egg shell candles etc)

You can find some of these ideas on that Instagram guide:

https://www.instagram.com/scraps.and.coffee.grounds/guide/easter-crafts-and-activities/17972166667543944/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

This year we have started our Easter crafts using air dry clay.

It’s quite easy and you just need air dry clay and some water. Eventually, you can paint it and varnish your egg holder.

For the shape we decided to create cute bunnies with ears and tails, and we used a boiled egg as pattern for size.

Check the video below to see how we did it:

The hardest part is to create the ears, add water and be careful and patient, it’ll work! The water will help you to shape ever small piece (just wet a bit).

Let dry and draw a face bunny with markers, paint etc and varnish it.

That bunny handmade egg holder is really cute and it can make a great holder for Easter painting eggs activities as well, do you like it?

Have a great Easter/half term!

Diy flower frogs with air dry clay

DIY flower frogs with air dry clay: today I am going to show you the easiest way to create your own handmade flower frogs with air dry clay, a nice spring craft to do with your kids!

You know that what I love the most when it comes to DIY is simplicity: I m will rarely try difficult, complicated crafts or recipes. It needs to be easy, simple and also some kind of unique; I try to find different ideas than the ones already shared thousand times.

That spring craft is not an exception and you will only need air dry clay. And eventually you can recycle a glass jar bit that’s optional, as you can use a regular glass for that.

DIY flower frogs with air dry clay

Supplies:

You’ll need air dry clay and a glass container (recycled is always better)

If you don’t know where to find air dry clay you can use that one:

Air dry clay

How to:

You simply need to wet a small piece of clay, use your glass as model to shape a round (about 5mm thick) and with a wooden stick, make some holes on it. Be sure to add more than 1cm spaces between holes so it doesn’t break.

Then you let dry and paint it or varnish if you want so.

Your flower frogs is ready to use!

DIY flower frogs with air dry are a cute craft specially when spring is coming and flowers are blooming everywhere. My kids love to pick wildflowers and gift them to us, so that’s a way to keep these lovely bouquets fresh a few more days.

Talking about that, we try to explain to our girls that we shouldn’t pick wildflowers or flowers that we don’t know, or plants when we hike. Some flowers are protected, others are toxic, all of them are so important for pollination, so we need to be careful. Luckily enough, we know some spots (and specially our garden) that let grow wildflowers to often cut them so these are the ones we use to pick.

Hope you liked these! See you soon!

Earth day handmade cards

Earth day handmade cards: Earth day is coming soon so today I want to show you a great craft that will allow you to start conversations about the planet and the environment with your kids, recycling old bits of colors.

We celebrate Earth day the 25th of March, as you can read on earth day.org:

“the time is now to create a generation of citizens, workers, students, and leaders ready for climate change. We need public understanding of how to stop climate change and environmental harm.”

earth day.org

So we can start to educate ourselves and our children with simple activities that will use recycled materials, read books about climate change, environment and simply starting conversations with the kids.

I decided to create handmade cards with my girls using bits of crayola and some mini pie molds.

That kind of mold works perfectly:

Muffins mold

You just need to choose green and blue colors and put them into the molds. Out in the oven 180°c 10-15 min (watch them so they don’t brown or burn).

When the crayola is completely melted, mix a bit your colors with a wooden stick so you can recreate small little Earths.

Check the video below for a small tutorial:

When the colors have cooled down, glue them into your cardboard cards. And write the message of your choice, we used “there is no planet B” and “good planets are hard to find”.

Earth day handmade cards

These are easy to make and the result is really lovely. We are thinking about bringing them to our school teachers??.

We loved our earth day handmade cards, and hope that you will too!

DIY bunny headband

DIY bunny headband: today I am going to show you how to make the cutests bunny ears, just upcycling a regular headband and using some wire and wood pearls.

This is seriously a great activity that you can share with your toddler, practicing fine motor skills and creating a bunny headband perfect for Easter!

All you need is some wire or pipe cleaners, an old headband, rustic rope and wooden pearls.

First of all you need to enroll the headband with the rustic rope.

Then you will add the wooden pearls. When you have added all the pearls, you need to join the ears to the headband. You can add some hot glue but that’s optional.

To customize your headband, you can decorate it: we used paper flowers (you can definitely use real flowers, and it’ll look fantastic)

Here you have the video that I shared last year when I first created the headband (back in 2022)

It’s a lovely activity to get your kids involved in and the headband looks so pretty in my opinion.

I made an Instagram guide where you can find some of my favorite Easter crafts and activities, you can check it here .

Hope that you liked that adorable DiY bunny headband and that you might try to make your own! Tag me if you do and you’ll made my day!

And be sure to stay tuned because more cute crafts for Easter are coming soon!

Sending hugs to you!Sara xoxo

Glass and window cleaner spray recipe

Glass and window cleaner spray recipe: today I am going to share the easiest homemade window cleaner, with just 3 natural ingredients!

I don’t even remember the last time that I shared a homemade recipe, although they were the firsts that I started to make in order to avoid chemicals and harmful ingredients for me and my family.

I don’t like complicated recipes, and ingredients also need to be simple, and easy to find, otherwise I won’t enjoy to make these handmade and it’ll be too expensive as well.

So here in my blog you’ll only find inexpensive and natural ingredients, great for you and the planet!

A really simple recipe that we use to make when we don’t use our steam cleaners is the glass and window cleaner spray.

Ingredientes

  • 10 drops of lemon essential oil
  • 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar

Supplies: a spray bottle.

You just need to add the ingredients into the bottle, shake and spray!

You can also use newspapers to use the spray, if you have them at home (or ask to a reader friend to keep them for you), that will help you to avoid marks or prints!

Hope that you liked that easy homemade idea and that you might try the Glass and window cleaner spray recipe!

How to make scratch off tickets!

How to make scratch off tickets: father’s day new craft idea! Today I am going to show you how to make cute scratch off tickets that your kids can gift for father’s day, mother’s day, teachers appreciation etc and there is also a free template for you!

For that craft you just need the paint of your choice (golden acrylique for a more realistic result), 1 tsp of dish soap, plastic tape and to download the free template (or create your own), write gift notes inside (voucher for a kiss, hug, some tickles, I love you hidden message etc)

You already know that I never use plastic tape and always use washi tape instead (in order to avoid plastic). For that craft though, you need to use plastic tape otherwise it won’t work, the plastic will be the protective layer of your hidden message. But still considering to switch to washi for your crafts and you’ll be avoiding a lot of un-recyclable plastic!

How to make scratch off tickets

How to make scratch off tickets

  • Mix th acrylic paint with the dish soap.
  • Write your hidden messages.
  • Put tape on your hidden messages.
  • Paint the tape with the mixture of paint and dish soap.
  • Let dry and cut your tickets, it’s ready!

Your tickets are ready to gift! It’s such a fun craft and usually nobody expect that these are that easy to make by yourself, so it’s definitely a nice surprise!

Saint Patrick’s day easy crafts

Saint Patrick’s day easy crafts: today I want to share with you two easy crafts for Saint Patrick’s day, the first one: a cardboard shamrock. And the second one: a lovely handmade card.

Your kids will love these activities using their own drawing paper sheets and having fun while practicing their fine motor skills.

That’s a craft that we made last year when both girls were homeschooled (if you follow us for a while, you might know that French laws have changed and they’re avoiding homeschooling now…).

DIY Cardboard shamrock

I shared that cardboard shamrock on Instagram but never managed to write the blog post since now!

So for that one, you’re going to recycle cardboard and paper sheets (I used my girls’ own drawings, that they always refuse to throw away, so we sort them out and choose a few for the craft).

You just need to draw a 4 leaf shamrock on the cardboard (basically 4 hearts), cut it and let your kids paint the paper sheets with different tones of green.

Saint Patrick's day easy craft

Once is dry, the kids can cut or tear up (depending on their age) the paper in small pieces and glue them to the cardboard.

Diy shamrock

They can create patterns or simply glue the paper pieces randomly. We used watercolors for an ombre effect and ticky glue.

And that’s the final result! They obviously asked for a face painting too so I drew a rainbow on the cheek. And we used our DIY leprechaun hats that we made two years ago from toilet paper rolls!

Handmade shamrock card

That’s a really cute and simple card that your kids can make by themselves, my girls are obsessed about hearts so they obviously loved that one! They were actually amazed when I told them that one can create a shamrock just drawing 4 hearts ?

You just need to use one of the painted paper sheets and cut 4 hearts, then glue them on a cardboard, card etc write your wishes and done! So easy!

DIY cardboard cubist masks

DIY cardboard cubist masks: our last handmade costume on a budget! In this post you’ll find the easiest way to create family themed costumes without spending lots of money and avoiding plastic and new useless purchases.

And guess what: it’s a great introduction to set styles for your kids. That’s why I thought that these masks could be a great idea for carnival and Mardi gras.

With that activity, they will learn about art and practice fine motor skills, colors, composition, shapes etc

Supplies for DIY cardboard cubist masks

First of all, of course, cardboard: cereal boxes for example, I always recycle them for our crafts and activities.

Scissors and markers: I used a black permanent marker to copy Picasso’s portraits so the girls could color with regular markers but you can also use chalk markers or even paint.

Another idea is to cut shapes and create your own unique cubist masks, letting your child choose the disposition of the different parts of the face, a fun game for them!

Our cubist masks, the result

I just copied a few portrait for me and the girls and Picasso’s self-portrait for my husband

That way we had the easiest family themed costume idea.

I added black elastic bands to the cardboard and we put on colored clothes.
