Rainbow pizza

Rainbow pizza: Saint Patrick’s day is coming soon and even if we don’t actually celebrate it here, we like to craft and cook something related, that way it will be easier for the girls to shout-out March and the beginning of spring.

We have already made some crafts Saint Patrick?? related, like shamrocks from egg cardboards, or leprechaun hats from toilet rolls, but I thought that some rainbows would be nice as here it is,a homemade rainbow pizza!

We made the dough in order to create a rainbow shape easily, and add red cabbage, green beans, broccoli, yellow peppers, corn, and cherry tomatoes.

Another idea for Saint Patrick’s day is a green charcuterie board, just choose all kind of green foodies and add them to the board!I also made some heart shaped matcha butter cookies to create a shamrock ?? hope you like it!xoxo

Laced crepes

Laced crepes: Today we celebrate Candlemas, in France “la chandeleur” means the first signs of spring slowly arriving and here is all about “crêpes”.

Why do French people make crêpes on this day? Apparently the tradition started when winter planting begin, and the excess flour was perfect to make crêpes. Their shape and color reminded the sun and warmer days coming!

It’s the perfect day to cook with toddlers, and for the first time this year we tried different shapes, hope you like them!

Laced crepes

The recipe is quite simple:

-20 gr (plant based) Butter

– 480 gr( plant) milk
– 250 gr flour

– 3 eggs (can be replaced with 1smashed banana for a vegan recipe)

– pinch of salt

The how-to is similar to the pancakes one: Heat a 15 cm/6-inch  pan . Pour in a ladle of dough by tilting the pan in all directions, and flip the crepe just before the little bubbles appear. Cook the other surface for about a minute, or until the crepe becomes lightly blonde.

And just because Valentine’s day is coming (and they are delicious) we also made these letter love and apple roses pastries, would you like to know how? Check the coming tutorials in my instagram @scraps.and.coffee.grounds

Cardboard crowns for the three wise man!

The three wise man activity idea: cardboard crowns! A cute craft for a new year. January 6th it’s a bank holiday in Spain: we celebrate the Epiphany. The kids receive gifts from the three kings and we eat “el roscón de reyes” ,a delicious king’s cake.

Inside the cake you can find “a prize”. Whoever gets the “fève” will pay the meal and the one finding a figurine will be the king! ( that’s the reason why the cakes are sold with a paper crown ?).

A similar tradition in France, where just Santa brings gifts but we also eat la “galette des rois”, with just one “feve”, the one who find it, will be the king?.

I was thinking about trying to make the king’s cake for the first time,(you know, here it’s all about handmade stuff) but we also needed our crowns,so I immediately found some cardboard to upcycle and repurpose into these new crowns, the best January activity with the kids?

Cardboard crowns

You just need your creativity, and the possibilities are endless! We used some scraps and cardboards that we already had at home at that’s the result!

Kids love to paint so I gave my girls some acrylic paint and washi tape, they decorated and had so much fun, they will play all year long with their cardboard crowns for sure!

Epiphany sensory play

Epiphany sensory play

Epiphany sensory play! I team up with some amazing accounts on instagram sharing a virtual Advent calendar, today it’s my turn so keep reading to discover my entry!?

“Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is,rather thank as you think it should be”-Wayne Dyer-.
My wish for you is to find peace whatever happens ?

For that photo I thought about the three wise man,my favorite holiday and the star. So I created a pasta star and added some cookies (it’s Christmas after all!) The girls could play with rice, pasta, cookies and other nativity characters.

It’s a great idea for a Christmas or epiphany sensory play activity, as we play with textures and fine motor skills ,and added starry cookies because, you know, Christmas ?

Hope you liked it!Xx
