Fails

?”We learn from failure not from success”?
I wanted to make one of those beautiful soaps with flowers, but I took the white “melt and pour” instead of the clear one, so you can find here our “hidden flowers” soaps. I also wanted to try those beautiful clay ornaments with pressed flowers, but using salt dough instead of clay :fail. (I don’t even know why, it’s not the first time that we “play” with salt dough). We’ll try again, we had fun the same way, and we could take a picture of it anyway?

There is a process that we don’t see behind our accounts, we try, we fail and we learn. So don’t be frustrated if sometimes you fail,  and enjoy the process of learning.

?Homemade soaps : – 100gr of melt and pour (organic glycerin soap base, I buy mine at @aromazone_officiel). – 1tbsp olive oil
– 1tbsp coconut oil
– you can add vitE as a preservative and essential oils of your choice. -melt the soap base, add the oils, put into molds and let cool.

?Salt dough :2cups of all-purpose flour, 1cup of salt, 1cup of cold water.

Make the planet green again

?Make our planet green again?
I don’t know when my sustainable journey exactly started. My mother had already a sustainable lifestyle when I was little and I guess it always starts there. But my own journey, my blog or this account, are somehow coming from my motherhood experience. Since I am a mother I want a green future for my daughters and all the kids of the planet. They deserve it, right?
One easy way to be gentle to our planet is fighting against fast fashion. That’s why I created #normalisingthriftedclothes.
We can find beautiful second hand clothes for kids too, and it’s easier with the second child because we already have a lot of things from the oldest.
And If I need something else I always check @vinted , @etsy or @ebay . This way we can even still playing matchymatchy and be respectful with our planet.
Join our movement tagging  your own outfits with #normalisingthriftedclothes

Intuitive eating

What’s your relationship with food? Let’s talk about intuitive eating!

We often craving an especific kind of food when we feel anxious : sweet or salty, one bit or one pound… and we don’t feel good after eating it, probably the opposite.
That’s because usually we don’t have a healthy bond with food, and that begins when we are kids.
Intuitive eating habits can bolster a child’s long-term relationship with food and body image.
We have tried to start some good habits at home, with baby led weaning routines. That has been the best way for us to start a healthy relationship with food.
And you can raise an intuitive eater and forget the “pickie toddler” following just some easy steps and having the right information.

Today I want to share some tips:
1.Don’t bargain. They may start to look at food as a project or a burden, rather than a source of pleasure and nutrition
2. Offer a variety of foods.
3. Routines can be FLEXIBLE
4. Don’t call foods “good” or “bad, focus instead on the way they’ll help to run, read, learn…
5. Avoid rewards for eating. Rewards are ALWAYS tricky and they are not better at the table. We must remember that they  haven’t a positive effect in the long run.
6. Also, avoid eating as a reward
7. Respect the “I am all done”. TRUST them even if it’s frustrating for you.

Hope it helps! We need to stopt all kind of “eat your plate” ,”just one bite” and other similar “rules”… And be positive parents also during the meals.

Slow birthday

Slow birthday ideas: Do you probably already know the slowlife mouvement, and the lock down situation has helped at least to learn to stop and find joy in little things.

Slow life, slow waste, natural living, homemade items… And slow birthdays too. No rush, small and simple parties, baking the cake together, we have always loved that way but quarantine left us no choice this year anyway.

So here it goes some photos of our favorite “slow waste” diy that we enjoyed for our girl’s first birthday party.

No plastic for wrapping, just some fabric

Sustainable gift wrapping

And with fabric offcuts I could make the birthday crown, a birthday garland and a quiet book as a handmade gift for my daughter.

Rainbow carrot cake

Rainbow carrot cake: Birthdays for kids can be healthy and yummy too,no need to give them all the sugar! Check this recipe and you’ll see!

We wanted a “seasonal” cake for our daughter’s first birthday and of course a healthy one, so we decided to bake a delicious carrot cake, sugar free.

Ingredients

1 ripe banana
75g/6 tbsp of coconut oil
120g/1 cup whole wheat flour
2 tsp baking powder
4 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ginger
5 medium carrots (grated)
45g/ 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
a handful of walnuts ( chopped)
a handful of sultanas

Sugar free carrot cake

How to:

Sift the flour, baking powder and spices into a bowl. Add the banana and the melted coconut oil and mix.
Whisk the eggs with a hand blender and add to the flour. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until blended.
Bake it for 40-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.

Icing : mascarpone, banana and whipped cream (whip the mix until thickened)

Rainbow carrot cake

We decorated with sultanas and chopped walnuts making different bows with them. Ta-dah!

Hope you’ll like it, we really enjoyed it! The original recipe is from www.waffleandwhisk.com and I changed the icing because I wanted to avoid honey. Xx

Repurposing placemats

Repurposing placemats into an upcycled handbag!
I can’t believe that two years have passed since I shared one of my favorites #diyprojects.

I was so excited to share it on the blog, big enthusiasm moment ?  ( I even thought that it’ll go viral ? a girl can dream!)

You can check the link here if you are curious about that refashioned handbag made from place mats.
I customised mine with that vintage crocheted doily : I love these but I have zero skills for crochet so when we find nice ones rummaging in flea markets I always bring them at home (the bests are those of my mom though ??).

Still one of my favorite totem bags for picnics and beach days and I can’t wait to use it again ?

Slow fashion

“Take me outside ” that’s probably what all our shoes would say if they could talk, right?
We have started our daily walks, to quiet places just to enjoy some nature and avoid the crowd.
Those thrifted boots will stay at home for now anyway because I am just wearing outside the same pair of shoes (easy washable and resistant to rain?yep, still raining )
So, inspired by @sara_waiste I thought that maybe another use would be fun? #normalisingthriftedclothes
