Diy rope rainbow

DIY rope rainbow: Spring has arrived and here the month of March means changing weather, rain and sun on the same day, and more rainbows on the sky!

And rainbows are now everywhere on the net too, especially these wall decors made with macrame rope.

It is not the quickest #diy but at least it’s really easy. The wrapping part takes some time though!

Diy rope rainbow

Following a #zerowaste philosophy I try to use items that I already have at home, so that’s the reason why I used this kind of rope (besides I like it better because it makes a rustic effect). You can also use thread or yarn for the wrapping but I have lots of wool at home, so for me is easier to use them, told you: no waste!

  • So for this rainbows I just needed:

5,5 m of Thick rope

Wool

Thread

Cotton

Needle

Scissors

  • How-to:

-laying out the rope in your rainbow shape. Cut each and leave enough extra rope for the fringe.

Diy rainbow tutorial

– Start wrapping the rope with the wool. Wool is thicker than thread so it makes the wrapping much faster.

– wrap all the layers

– Stich the layers together with thread

– unravel the rope fringe

– to hang it up I used just a bit of thread on the top of the first layer (the biggest one)

And that’s all, it’s really easy. The wrapping would be the most of the work but using wool and making a small rainbow it didn’t take that much.

I spent about three hours for both rainbows.

It’s really cute decorating the girl’s room, they love it!

Handmade toothpaste recipe

Handmade toothpaste recipe: Did you know that you can make your own toothpaste with just 4 ingredients?

Standard toothpaste could contain way more than that, and not the best ones… Abrasives, detergents, flavours (saccharine), humectants, binders and other additives.

And let’s not forget the sublingual administration principle: When a chemical comes in contact with the mucous membrane beneath the tongue, it is absorbed.

Besides, just a soft toothbrush and a good brushing techniques will remove plaque.

Good food habits and regular appointments would be enough to keep a good dental hygiene.

But if you want to have a fresh toothbrush feeling and add an antiseptic, antifungal or whitener effects some natural ingredients will help you: sodium bicarbonate, white clay and salt will be enough.

-1 tsbp sodium bicarbonate : whitener

-4 tsbp white clay: purifying and anti-infectious

-1/2 tsbp salt: antiseptic and antifungal

-2 drops of citron essential oil: antiseptic and bactericidal.

Mix all the ingredients and put them on a small glass container.
yes, zero waste because you’ll avoid plastics again!

Also we buy now our bamboo toothbrushes, but I am looking for sustainable brands because all those “trendy bamboo products” could have apparently a bad environment impact now…I need to read more about that!

It’s another very easy recipe, takes 5 minutes to make and it’s healthier for you and the planet! Avoiding plastics in the packaging and in the ingredients. And it’s handier for Travels too! Would you try that handmade toothpaste recipe?

Refashioned maternity jeans

Refashioned maternity jeans: It’s been a while since I didn’t post a refashioning project, and the last one that I did was a “maternity jean”.

If you have seen some of my posts you already Know that I like recycled items, slow and sustainable fashion.

Refashioning it’s a way to work on my sewing skills and creativity, as you need to find the way to change an old item to a new one.

This time I wanted to create a comfy low-waist jean, because at that stage of pregnancy I don’t feel comfortable with maternity jeans, the belt bothers me and I prefer just low waist pants.

I found an extra large jean and I thought that I could resize it and adjust the low waist.

[wpvideo fbOXiKcp data-temp-aztec-id=”657a364d-ec17-42fb-b128-53d9faae48b8″]

I used another pant as a pattern, just like this (sorry for the amateur pic):I cut following the correct sized pant pattern, but leaving the bigger one size of waist untouched. Finally, Isew the different parts and I just add an elastic band on the waist: that’s all, I have my comfy pants!

I wanted to test the “jean-culotte” model, wearing it with vintage boots. I don’t know how I feel about it as I am not used to that kind of lenghts, but hey! why not, right?

And I am already thinking about to make a skirt with these pants for this summer, when baby2 will be arrived ?. I’ll keep you updated!

Avril cosmetics

Avril cosmetics : Sometimes people think that I make ALL my cosmetics, but I don’t, I just use some recipes in order to avoid chemicals and plastic and because it’s fun to make these easy recipes, all with natural products.

So far I’ve made lipbalm, face cream, an even eyelashes mascara, but I like to use some handy products that I buy and I love their ingredients, so today I am going to share the main products that I use for my make-up routine (this is not and ad, and I buy these products myself).
That brand is Avril, is ecocert (ecological french and cruelty free products) and it’s a brand that I love because the quality of their products.

*My favorite one: the double crayon fard&liner. It would be a little hard to make my own fard eyes, and with this crayon you have the Kohl two in one product.

I’ve tried once to make my own mascara and it was quite easy with the right ingredients, but these are hard to find: you must buy them in purpose, so it’s easier for me to buy this mascara.

*Day face cream: with organic abricot kernel oil for dry and sensitive skins. I really like my homemade creams, but they are so nourishing that they act more like balms, I prefer to apply them at night.

*The night face cream with organic shea butter is perfect for sensitive skins as mine, as I said I like to apply my own creams at night but I sometimes use this one because I love its ingredients too.

*And the lipstick is just perfect, creamy and with the right shade for me, I love homemade lip balms but it’s hard to find the perfect shade, easier this way!

As I said, this us not a sponsored post, I just use these products as an alternative to homemade cosmetics. So I just wanted to share them with you, hope you liked them!

Free bunny teether pattern

Free bunny teether pattern

Free bunny teether pattern: Nesting and a second pregnancy going on so fast!

I don’t know if that really means that delivery is coming soon but the feeling of nesting is right here. I want all to be ready, even things that aren’t that important, like my mind was so cluttered and I needed to clean all these feelings.

I wanted to make some #diy projects for baby2, and I finished almost all of them.

I sewed two matched bonnets (for both: first born and new born), a rabbit teether, and a baby bloomer.

You can download here the teether pattern:

These are all simple patterns, and the teether is specially easy and cute , I’ve never tried before and I hope baby2 will enjoy!

Just need to finish a few more “baby projects” and I will be (almost) satisfied.

Hope you liked the free bunny teether pattern!
